Brownwood topples host Lady ’Dillos, 44-31, in weekend finale

SAN SABA — The Brownwood Lady Lions completed a perfect 5-0 run through San Saba’s Hill Country Classic tournament, improving to 7-0 on the season as they defeated the host Lady ‘Dillos, 44-31, in Saturday afternoon’s championship game.

“Our goal was to win the tournament and be the first Brownwood team to win the Hill Country Classic,” said Lady Lions head coach Heather Hohertz. “The girls are excited about being 7-0 but we still have a lot to work on. Our rebounding was good today, but we still have a ways to go.”

The Lady Lions jumped out to an 11-7 after one quarter, which grew to 29-21 by halftime. Through three periods, Brownwood owned a 40-28 advantage.

Ryleigh Dalleh led the Lady Lions with 10 points followed by Taytum Sutton with nine, all-tournament team members Mallory Garcia and Sage Cupps with eight and seven points respectively, Kenya Barnes with six points and Daisy Green with four.

Brownwood shot 39 percent (17 of 44) percent from the floor, including 26 percent (6 of 23) on three-pointers. The Lady Lions also knocked down 50 percent (4 of 8) of their free throws, collected 26 rebounds with 15 coming on the offensive end, and recorded 10 steals.
