Brownwood carries 9-0 record into Lorena tournament

HAMILTON — The No. 5 Brownwood Lady Lions kept their unblemished record intact, picking up their ninth consecutive victory to start the season, 51-27 over Class 2A Hamilton Tuesday night.

The Lady Lions (9-0) led 10-9 after one quarter, 25-13 at halftime and 38-18 through three periods.

Taytum Sutton was the lone Lady Lion to finish in double figures with 10 points trailed by nine from Sage Cupps, seven apiece from Daisy Green, Mallory Garcia, Ryleigh Dalleh and Kenya Barnes and two points each from Mya Wallace and Hadley Monroe.

Brownwood shot 37 percent (20 of 54) from the floor, including 33 percent (5 of 15) from beyond the three-point arc. The Lady Lions also converted 60 percent (6 of 10) of their free throw attempts.

The Lady Lions turned the ball over just eight times while forcing 17 steals and pulling down 27 rebounds, with 11 on the offensive end.

Next for Brownwood will be the Vicki Mitchell-Lauren Timmons Memorial Tournament in Lorena, which begins Thursday. The Lady Lions battle San Elizario at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Robinson at 5 p.m. Thursday and Palestine at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
