Brownwood notches fourth win in five outings

DUBLIN — Trailing by eight points to start the fourth quarter, the Brownwood Lions rallied for their fourth victory in five outings, knocking off the Breckenridge Buckaroos, 51-45, Thursday morning in the opening round of the Dublin Athletic Booster Club Tournament.

Knotted at 7 after one quarter, the Lions fell behind 20-15 at halftime and were down 36-28 heading into the fourth quarter, where Brownwood outscored Breckenridge 23-9.

“We started out very slow and missed a total of 13 layups and had a ton of turnovers,” said Lions head coach Nadir Dalleh. “Breckenridge shot lights out and we were hitting the lights with ours. For three quarters we really struggled and found ourselves down 18. But it was very encouraging for our kids to fight back and win the game. It gives everybody confidence.”

Blake Bronniman scored a team-high 15 points for the Lions followed by 10 from A.J. McCarty, nine from Xavier Porter, six from Sean Yoder, four each from Zach Strong and Gavon Clemens, two from Jared Cullins and one point from Jaten Reeves.

The Lions (4-1) will battle Clifton at 9:30 a.m. Friday.
