ABILENE — Facing their third and final NCAA Division I program in non-conference action this season, the Howard Payne Lady Jackets were dealt an 88-46 defeat by Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon.
Abilene Christian (4-3) owned a 21-15 lead after one quarter, which grew to 43-29 at halftime and 63-40 through three periods. HPU was then outscored 25-6 in the fourth.
Anastasia Willis led Howard Payne with eight points followed by seven from Dominique Featherstone, five points from Chelsey Harris, three each from Arriyanna Forch and Caprica Brooks, two apiece from Presley McKethan, Jada Evans, and Kristin Cunningham, and one point from Chelsi Woodard.
HPU converted just 28 percent (17 of 60) of its shots, including 1 of 17 three-pointers. The Lady Jackets hit 65 percent (11 of 17) of their free throws but committed 25 turnovers and were outrebounded 49-33.
Dominique Golighly led ACU, which shot 49 percent (33 of 68), with 10 points.
The Lady Jackets (3-5, 0-1) resume American Southwest Conference action at 5:30 p.m. Monday as they welcome LeTourneau to the Brownwood Coliseum.
