BEAUMONT— The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets concluded their stretch of non-conference outings against NCAA Division I opponents with 112-56 loss to Lamar Saturday afternoon.

Howard Payne trailed 57-27 after one half and was outscored 55-29 over the final 20 minutes.

The Yellow Jackets knocked down 38 percent (21 of 56) of their shots, including 44 percent (7 of 16) their three-pointers. But HPU shot just 54 percent (7 of 13) at the free throw line, committed 34 turnovers that led to 43 Lamar points and was outrebounded 46-35.

Khyce Randall led HPU with 14 points followed by Drake Cooper with 12, Thomas Bingham with seven, De’Marcus Hurd and Timothy Aguero with six each, Cody Hastings with four, Cole Bene’ with three, Talen Davis with two and Darren Farmer and Joshua Carroll with one point each.

Lamar (8-1) sank 50 percent (37 of 74) of its shots, including 10 three-pointers, and tallied 28 points at the free throw line.

Josh Nzeakor led the charge with 18 points.

The Yellow Jackets (2-5, 0-1) resume American Southwest Conference action at 7:30 p.m. Monday as they welcome LeTourneau to the Brownwood Coliseum.
