GEORGETOWN — For the second time in as many outings this season, the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets collected a non-conference victory over the Southwestern Pirates.
The Yellow Jackets — winners of four of their last five contests — concluded the season sweep with a 93-88 victory Tuesday afternoon, as Howard Payne rallied from a four-point halftime deficit with 55 second-half points to even its overall season record at 6-6.
HPU shot 48 percent (32 of 67) from the floor, 41 percent (9 of 22) from the three-point arc and 65 percent (20 of 31) at the free throw line. The Yellow Jackets owned a slim 44-42 edge in rebounds and committed 14 turnovers to Southwestern’s 13.
Khyce Randall again led the charge for HPU with 25 points followed by 16 from Shadd Cole, 15 from De’Marcus Hurd, eight from Timothy Aguero, six from Joshua Taylor, five each from Rickey Guillory and Darren Farmer, four from Thomas Bingham, three apiece from Drake Cooper and Colton Otts, two from Talen Davis and one point from Cole Bene’.
Southwestern (4-7) — which converted just 39 percent (25 of 65) of its field goal attempts — received 24 points from Ryan Wheeler, 18 from Ryan Ogden, 14 from Brandon Alexander, 12 from Trenton Garrett and 10 from Luke Hicks.
The Yellow Jackets, 2-2 in American Southwest Conference action, resume league play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday as they host UT-Tyler.
