GEORGETOWN — The Brownwood Lions soccer team needed just one match to equal its win total from a season ago.

In the opener of the Georgetown tournament, a hat trick by Jakob Dorsett and eight saves in goal by Caleb Woodcock led to a 3-1 victory for the Lions over New Summerfield.

Dorsett started the scoring six minutes into the contest thanks to an assist from Brandon Bushnell, but New Summerfield drew even before the half ended.

Dorsett scored the go-ahead goal just three minutes into the second half, scoring following a corner kick by Conner Fitzgerald. Dorsett then added an insurance goal with three minutes left, dribbling from midfield following a punt by Woodcock and beating the New Summerfield defender in one-on-one competition.

Brownwood’s new head soccer coach Brent Hardwick accompanied the Lady Lions to the Kennedale tournament this weekend, so assistant Scott Swanzy is stepping in for the weekend.

The Lions resume tournament action at noon Friday against Lockhart, then clash with Salado at 4 p.m. Saturday in the weekend finale.
