KENNEDALE — The Brownwood Lady Lions concluded the Kennedale tournament with two more shutout victories en route to posting a 3-1 record during the opening weekend of the season.
The Lady Lions opened the tournament with a 5-0 victory over Wichita Falls Hirschi Thursday, followed by a 1-0 loss to host Kennedale.
On Friday, Brownwood bounced back and blanked Paris, 4-0, while on Saturday the Lady Lions collected a 3-0 victory over Bryan Rudder.
In the win over Paris, Aleyia Cotton scored two goals while Carly Person and Maddy Garza added their first goals of the season.
Taylar Kinzler tallied three assists while Miranda Guerrero was credited with the fourth.
In Saturday’s victory over Rudder, Cotton recorded her second hat trick of the season — giving her eight goals through four games.
Garza, Kinzler and Madison Chesser recorded assists on offense, while Channing Barron notched two saves in goal en route to the defensive shutout.
The Lady Lions (3-1) are off until Jan. 16 when they visit San Angelo Lake View in non-district action.

GEORGETOWN — Coming off a 3-1 victory over New Summerfield in Thursday’s season opener, the Brownwood Lions were dealt their first losses of the season to wrap up the Georgetown tournament.
On Friday, the Lions fell to Lockhart, 6-1, while Saturday action saw Brownwood on the short end of a 2-1 decision against Salado.
In the loss to Lockhart, the Lions surrendered goals in the 15th, 16th and 17th minutes of the first half before Enrique Hernandez scored off an assist from Braden Bushnell in the 20th minute.
Trailing 3-1 at intermission, the Lions gave up three more goals in the second half in the fourth, 12th and 16th minutes.
Against Salado, the Lions surrendered goals in the 25th and 28th minutes of the first half.
Brownwood cut Salado’s lead in half just 1:37 into the second half when Conner Fitzgerald scored off an assist from Jakob Dorsett, but the Lions were unable to complete the rally.
The Lions (1-2) will compete in the Killeen tournament this coming weekend, facing Copperas Cove at noon Thursday, Killeen Shoemaker at 8 a.m. Thursday and Harker Heights at noon Saturday.
