BRADY — In their final game prior to the Jan. 16 District 5-4A opener at Big Spring, the Brownwood Lions required overtime but walked away with a 44-42 victory over the Brady Bulldogs Tuesday night.

With the win, the Lions improved to 16-6 on the season — two victories shy of last year’s total of 18 in a bi-district finalist campaign.

Against Brady, the Lions trailed 12-5 after one quarter and 19-15 at halftime, but grabbed a 28-27 lead through three quarters before the Bulldogs drew even at 38 at the end of regulation.

In overtime, Zach Stong and A.J. McCarty sank buckets, while Blake Bronniman added a pair of critical free throws that proved to the be the difference for Brownwood.

Bronniman led the Lions with 14 points trailed by Strong with 13, Xavier Porter with eight, McCarty with three and Tommy Bowden, Ryan Riker, Sean Yoder and Gavon Clemons with two points apiece.
