EARLY — The Early Lady Horns started the second half of District 6-3A girls basketball action by avenging a loss in the league opener with a 30-19 triumph over the Bangs Lady Dragons Tuesday night.

With the win, Early (13-16, 3-3) pulled even with Bangs (9-19, 3-3) for third place in the league standings, as the top four teams will advance to the postseason.

Early led 8-7 after one quarter, Bangs drew even at 13 at halftime, but the Lady Horns opened a 21-15 advantage through three periods.

Ellie Ryan led the Lady Horns with 11 points and three rebounds trailed by Trinity Tomlinson with six points, seven steals and four rebounds, Kacee Gober with six points and six boards, MaKayla DeLeon with five points and three assists and Alexa Portillo with two points.

Bangs was forced to play without senior Taylor Malett, the team’s leading scorer, who recently suffered a torn ACL.

Longhorns 48, Dragons 38

EARLY — The Early Longhorns notched their second District 6-3A boys basketball victory and evened their league mark in the process with a 48-38 home win over the Bangs Dragons Tuesday night.

Early (10-16, 2-2) received 14 points from Ty Schafer, 10 each from Ethan Mitchell and Devyn Burns, six from Taylor Hurt, four from Rowdy Elkins and two points each from Timmy Smithson and John Griffin.

Bangs (3-18, 1-3) finished with 14 points from Colton Brewer, six from Dagan Baker, five from Dawson Light, Trevor Slaughter and Justin Wilson with four each, Wesley Mitchell with three and Taylor Riley with two points.

The Early boys and girls will visit Brady Friday while the Bangs boys and girls host Comanche.
