BANGS – The Bangs Lady Dragons dramatically improved their postseason chances by handing District 6-3A front-runner Comanche its first league loss, 31-28, Friday night.

Bangs (10-19, 4-3) remained in a three-way tie with Brady (4-3) and Coleman (4-3) for second place and in the top four of the district race, one game ahead of Early (13-16, 3-4), with three league games remaining.

The Lady Dragons limited Comanche (6-1 in district) to nine first-half points and carried a six-point lead into the second half. After three quarters, Bangs led 23-19 and was able to fend off the Maidens over the final eight minutes.

Trenedi Deal scored a team-high 12 points for Bangs followed by Kayleah Hall with eight points.

The Lady Dragons visit last-place Dublin Tuesday night.

Brady 51, Lady Horns 37

BRADY — The Brady Lady Bulldogs avenged an earlier District 6-3A loss to Early, as the Lady Horns slipped into fifth place and out of the postseason picture following Friday night's 51-37 road defeat.

With three teams remaining, Early (13-16, 3-4) is a game back of the three-way tie for second place between Brady (4-3), Coleman (4-3) and Bangs (10-19, 4-3), and three games up on last-place Dublin.

Ellie Ryan led Early with 10 points trailed by seven each from MaKayla DeLeon and Vance Cady Gordon, six from Kacee Gober, three from Alexa Portillo and two points apiece from Emily Jillson and CyLee Tyson.

Gober also finished with a team-best 11 rebounds.

The Lady Horns host Coleman Tuesday night.

Brady 55, Longhorns 39

BRADY — The Early Longhorns dropped to fourth place in the District 6-3A boys basketball standings at the midway point following Friday night's 55-39 road loss to Brady.

Early (10-17, 2-3) trails Brady (11-11, 3-2) and Comanche (3-2) by one game and leads Bangs (3-19, 1-4) and Coleman (1-4) by one game.

The Longhorns received 11 points from Rowdy Elkins, eight from Devyn Burns, seven from Timmy Smithson, six from Ty Schafer, four from Ethan Mitchell, two from Brent Grooms and one point from John Griffin.

The Longhorns welcome Coleman Tuesday to start the second half of league play.
