No. 10 May Lady Tigers clinch third consecutive district title
BANGS — The Bangs Lady Dragons secured a playoff berth and ousted Coleman from postseason contention with a 37-35 victory over the Bluekatts in Tuesday night’s District 6-3A finale for both teams.
Bangs (12-20, 6-4) and Brady (9-10, 6-4) finished in a second-place tie and a tiebreaker will determine playoff seeding.
Coleman led 21-20 at halftime and 27-25 through three quarters, but Bangs owned a 12-8 scoring advantage in the fourth period.
Trenedi Deal led the Lady Dragons with 15 points followed by Honey Keely with eight and Kenzie Baker with seven.
Tiebreaker and bi-district playoff details for Bangs were unavailable at press time.
Lady Horns 24
COMANCHE — Despite a loss to District 6-3A champion Comanche in the regular season finale, the Early Lady Horns will be the district’s fourth playoff-seed — thanks to Bangs’ win over Coleman.
Early (15-17, 5-5) finished one game ahead of Coleman (18-12, 4-6) in the final district standings.
Against Comanche, the Lady Horns trailed 14-2 after one quarter, 21-12 at halftime and 29-20 through three periods.
Standouts for the Lady Horns included Trinity Tomlinson with seven points and six rebounds; Emily Jillson with six points and four rebounds; MaKayla DeLeon with six points; Ellie Ryan with three points and nine boards; and CyLee Tyson with two points.
Bi-district playoff details for Early were unavailable at press time.
May Lady Tigers 72,
Rising Star 12
MAY — The No. 10 May Lady Tigers clinched the District 15-A championship outright with a 72-12 victory over Rising Star Tuesday night.
May (25-3, 11-1), which earned its third consecutive district title, led 16-8 after one quarter, 47-9 at halftime and 59-9 through three periods.
Kelsie Gage led the Lady Tigers with 15 points followed by Kaylee Morris with 12, Taylor Cox with 10, Yary Rodriguez and Kelsey Chambers with nine apiece, Kyndi Kilgo with six, Skylar Jenkins with five, Jaycee Moses with four and Lauren Baker with two points.
The Lady Tigers, who have a first-round bye, will face Ropes at 5 p.m. Saturday at Roscoe in a playoff warm-up game.
May Tigers 86,
Rising Star 23
MAY — The May Tigers improved to 8-2 in District 15-A action and 14-6 overall with Tuesday’s 86-23 home win over Rising Star.
The Tigers led 23-5 after one quarter, 36-11 at halftime and 66-14 through three quarters.
Wyatt Mote led the way with 13 points followed by Gage Keckler with 12, Dalton Self, Tyler Wheeler and Jacob Brown with 11 each, Chris Flenniken with eight, Preston Johnston with six, Seth Johnston with five, Rory Bustamante with four and Daniel Salinas with three.
