Longhorns 46, Dragons 44
BANGS — The Early Longhorns kept their postseason hopes alive, and ended the Bangs Dragons' chances of reaching the playoffs, with a 46-44 road victory Friday night.
Early (11-20, 3-6) pulled into a fourth-place tie with Coleman (10-15, 3-6), which fell to Brady, 47-40, Friday night.
Heading into Tuesday's regular season finale, a Longhorns win over Brady coupled with a Coleman loss to District 6-3A champion Dublin puts Early in the playoffs. But if the Longhorns falter and the Bluecats pull off the upset, Coleman will move on. If both teams win or lose, a play-in game will take place Friday in Bangs, where the winner will draw District 5-3A champion Jim Ned in the bi-district round.
In the win over Bangs (3-22, 1-8), Early led 7-6 after one quarter, 15-10 at halftime and 36-24 through three periods.
Early received 12 points from Timmy Smithson, nine from Ethan Mitchell, seven from Ty Schafer, six from Devyn Burns, five from Taylor Hurt, four from Rowdy Elkins and three points from Brent Grooms.
For Bangs, Colton Brewer tallied 25 points followed by Trevor Slaughter with 12, Justin Wilson and Dawson Light with three each and Dagan Baker with one.
