The Howard Payne Lady Jackets golf team finished as the runner-up at the inaugural Battle at Camp Bowie Match Play Tournament hosted at the Brownwood Country Club over the weekend.

The tournament was played in a match play format in which teams go head to head on hole by hole scoring. The team that wins more holes in the match wins.

Howard Payne matched up against LeTourneau in the first round, ending in a 2 ½- 2 1/2 tie. Through a tie-breaker the Lady Jackets advanced to the winner's bracket.

The Lady Jackets faced off against Concordia on day two, falling 4-1 for second place in the tournament.

The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, came in fourth at the Battle at Camp Bowie.

Howard Payne defeated Schreiner, 3 1/2 to 2 ½, in the first round and advanced to the winner's side of the bracket. In the Jackets' second match of day one, HPU fell 4 1/2 to 1 1/2 to Concordia. In the third place match Sunday, the Yellow Jackets dropped their match to Mary Hardin-Baylor, 4 1/2 to 1 ½, to place fourth in the tournament.

Both the Lady Jackets and Yellow Jackets will next compete on Feb. 26-27 at the Linda Lowery Invitational hosted by Concordia. It will be held at Balcones Country Club in Austin.
