LUBBOCK — Reigning Class 4A boys golf state champion Jaryn Pruitt earned the Region I-4A preview championship Saturday at Shadow Hills Golf Course, firing a 36-hole total of 146 for a five-stroke victory.

As a team, Brownwood placed third overall with a 662 two-day composite total, trailing only Monahans (299-325=624) and Andrews (315-339=654). The Lions carded a 315 on Friday which left them in a second-place tie with Andrews, but followed with a 347 Saturday.

Brownwood finished ahead of District 5-4A rivals Snyder (321-369=690), Abilene Wylie (322-372=694) and Sweetwater (352-356=708) at the event.

Along with Pruitt, Caden Reagan carded a 167 with rounds of 79 and 88, John Murray finished with a 170 off two rounds of 85, Ben Kallman posted a 179 following an opening 83 and closing 96, and Hayden Tunnell shot a 232 with rounds of 117 and 115.

Pruitt began the tournament with a round of 68 Friday, good for a four-shot lead, and followed with a 78 Saturday in blustery conditions that included a 35 mile per hour wind. The closest competitor to Pruitt was Monahans' Joey Kirk, with rounds of 72 and 79 for a 151 total.

The Lions will host the boys portion of the annual Bluebonnet Invitational at Brownwood Country Club on Monday.
