Brownwood's Jaryn Pruitt continued his stellar play on the golf course this weekend, stepping away from UIL events to successfully defend his WTJCT Spring Showdown championship at The Hideout.
Pruitt - the reigning UIL Class 4A boys golf state champion - opened with a round of 66 Saturday and followed with a 73 Sunday for a 139 composite score, seven shots ahead of Goldthwaite's Drew Hermesmeyer, who finished with a 146 after rounds for 77 and 69.
The victory was the third in a row for Pruitt, who won the Brownwood Bluebonnet Invitational and the UIL Region I-4A boys preview event in Lubbock in his two previous outings.
Early's Jake Angerstein - who has a pair of first-place efforts in UIL tournaments to his credit this spring - ended up in a third-place tie with Karson Grigsby of Abilene with scores of 147. Angerstein carded rounds of 75 and 72.
Also competing were Brownwood's Caden Reagan and John Murray. Reagan posted a 152 with rounds of 75 and 77, while Murray carded a 164, rallying from an opening 89 with a closing 75.
