GRAHAM — Brownwood’s unbeaten streak reached eight games before coming to its conclusion Thursday, as the 11th-ranked Lady Lions blanked Hawley, 3-0, then lost in extra innings to Vernon, 5-4, at the Graham tournament.

In the win over Hawley, Chyanne Ellett went the distance in the circle, allowing three hits while striking out 14 to record the complete game shutout.

At the plate, the Lady Lions (12-2-1)tallied just three hits — by Ashlynn Patteson, Aubrey Holden and Mya McDowell — but drew 10 walks. Ayanna Clemons led the way with three free passes while Ellett and Aubrie Harris walked twice.

Brownwood tallied single runs in the top of the first and second innings and added another in the seventh.

The Lady Lions’ first run was the result of one-out walk by Harris, who later scored on Hawley’s lone error of the contest during Holden’s at-bat.

In the second inning, Ryleigh Dalleh led off by drawing a walk and later scored on wild pitch during Harris’ plate appearance.

The final run for Brownwood scored when Holden singled home Lexie Castillo, running for Ellett, who started the frame with a walk.

In the loss to Vernon, Brownwood led 3-0 after two innings and 4-1 through three, but gave up the final four runs of the game. Vernon closed the gap to 4-2 in the fifth, pulled even at 4 in the seventh and scored the only run of the eighth inning.

Playing under the international tiebreaker rule, Vernon’s Caroline Taylor was placed on second base at the start of the eighth, then Caitlin Brints led off with an infield single and Avery Kinney followed with another infield hit for Vernon. With one out, Shay Williams — who homered earlier — drew a walk to plate Taylor with the winning run.

In the bottom of the eighth for the Lady Lions, Harris was placed on second but Ellett, Patteson and Clemons were retired in order.

Ellett again went the distance in the circle, yielding five runs on 14 hits with 15 strikeouts and three walks.

Brownwood generated nine hits at the plate — two by Dalleh and one each by Harris, Ellett, Patteson, Clemons, Landry Holden and Annie Gillispie.

The Lady Lions’ three-run bottom of the second featured a single from Patteson, double from Clemons and RBI single by Landry Holden to produce the first run. Yizel Mendoza’s RBI fielder’s choice followed to plate Clemons with the second run. Dalleh later doubled home Mendoza for the third run.

Brownwood’s fourth run scored in the third inning as Harris, who led off with a single, scored on Patteson’s RBI sacrifice bunt.
