BIG SPRING — Behind a 14-medal performance — seven gold, six silver and one bronze — the Brownwood Lions generated 170 points to win their first track and field meet of the season at Friday's Big Spring Invitational.
Finishing first in their respective events were Patrick Nash in the 100 meters (11.04), Tommy Bowden in the 300-meter hurdles (42.99), Nick Salazar in the high jump (6-4), Paul David Quillin in the pole vault (13-0), A.J. McCarty in the long jump (21-2.5), the 4x100 relay of Nash, Braden Jetton, Gavin Jefferson and McCarty (42.48) and the 4x200 relay of Nash, Jetton, Rashad Henderson and McCarty (1:30.44).
Runners-up were Kirk Vickers in both the long jump (20-9.5) and triple jump (43-0.5), Jesse Sanchez in the 400 meters (52.71), Jetton in the 200 meters (23.2), Bowden in the 110-meter hurdles (16.48), and the 4x400 relay of Henderson, Jesse Sanchez, Jason Sanchez and McCarty (3:30.4).
McCarty finished third in the triple jump (41-5) while Blaize Infinger came in fourth in the discus (122-0).
Fifth-place efforts belonged to Zach Strong in the high jump (5-10) and Jefferson in the 200 meters (24.36), while Jefferson placed sixth in the 100 meters (11.56) as did Vickers in the 400 meters (54.53).
The Lions and Lady Lions will compete again Saturday, March 17 at the Possum Kingdom Relays hosted by Graham High School.
