Brownwood's Mallory Garcia fired the second-best round and the Lady Lions finished fifth as a team, while the defending Class A state champion Blanket Lady Tigers recorded the runner-up team total at Monday's Bluebonnet Invitational at the Brownwood Country Club.
Garcia's round of 85 tied with Abbey Bryan of Big Spring, who won a scorecard playoff for second place, and trailed only the 71 of Maddi Olsen from Abilene Wylie — which also won the team portion of the event.
Reigning Class A girls state champion Marki Kinkade carded an 86 to finish fourth overall and lead the Blanket contingent, which shot a 368 team score — 28 strokes back of Class 4A Wylie (340). Also competing for the Lady Tigers were Emily Furry (91), Cassie Furry (92) and Kenzie Tidwell (99).
Comprising the rest of the Lady Lions team — which also finished behind Gatesville (375) and Snyder (382) — were Averey Holden (105), Britlynn Bitters (114), Dalainy Garza (118) and Abby Burks (122). Brownwood finished with a 422 composite score.
The Brownwood No. 2 team posted a 473 total with the squad consisting of Bryanna Galvan (106), Payton Stewart (119), Tyra Cotton (122) and Emma Grace Quillin (126).
A pair of Bangs Lady Dragons were also amongst the field as Allison Jenkins shot a 108 and Jacie Blisard finished with a round of 111.
The Lady Lions begin the first round of District 5-4A action at Big Spring Monday.
