MINERAL WELLS — In their final outing prior to the start of District 5-4A baseball action, the Brownwood Lions’ nine-game win streak reached its conclusion as the No. 10 Iowa Park Hawks tallied a 6-0 neutral site victory here Tuesday night.
The Lions (12-5) collected six hits, but were unable to scratch a run across the plate. Hayden Donahoo led the charge with a pair of singles, Hunter Leonard doubled and Cain Kittrell, Grayson Swanzy and Caleb Hernandez added one hit apiece.
On the mound, Rylan Reagan was tagged with the loss allowing four runs — all earned — on five hits with seven walks and four strikeouts. Hernandez tossed an inning of relief, yielding two runs — none earned — on one hit with a pair of walks.
Iowa Park (13-1) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Kaleb Gafford led off with a double and moved to third base on one of three Brownwood errors. Trent Green then singled into right field to plate Gafford with the only run the Hawks would need.
Kaden Ashlock then drew a walk and Kase Johnson followed with a bunt single to load the bases. With two outs, another free pass issued to Derek Hostas allowed Green to trot home with the second run.
During Iowa Park’s four-run bottom of the sixth, Noah Diaz and Ridgley Dietrichson walked and Ashlock singled to load the bases with no outs. Johnson then reached on an error that allowed both Diaz and Dietrichson to score. Braxton Briones followed with an RBI sacrifice fly to plate Ashlock with the fifth run, while Chris Dickens reached on an error that brought home Johnson to cap the scoring.
The Lions visit Big Spring (12-8, 0-1) — a 13-2 loser to Sweetwater (9-8, 1-0) Tuesday night — at 7 p.m. Friday to kick off the district portion of their schedule.
