COLEMAN — The Early Longhorns collected their first District 6-3A baseball victory of the season, throttling the Coleman Bluecats, 25-5, Monday.

Early (4-7, 1-2) led 3-0 after one inning, 5-4 through two innings, then erupted for 16 runs in the top of the third. Up 21-4 heading into the fourth, the Longhorns tacked on four more runs in the fourth.

The Longhorns tallied just eight hits as Coleman (3-9, 0-3) committed six errors and issued 16 walks.

Devyn Burns recorded three hits and four RBIs, Ethan Portillo finished with three hits and three RBIs and Jonathan Morales added a hit and two RBIs. Brandon Lombrano also contributed a hit and one RBI.

Chase Keilers walked three times and tallied an RBI, Ryan Hill and Jayden Lehde notched two walks and an RBI, and Jesson Tarrant finished with a walk and an RBI.

On the mound, Portillo worked 2.2 innings with five runs allowed — one earned — on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks to collect the win.

The Longhorns will visit Dublin (2-9, 1-2) — a 3-2 loser to Bangs (4-9, 2-1) Monday — at 7 p.m. Thursday.
