GLEN ROSE — The Blanket Lady Tigers and Tigers golf teams continued their string of state tournament appearances at the Region III-A tournament at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose.
The defending state champion Lady Tigers won the regional championship by 86 strokes, firing a 740 compared to the 826 of runner-up Tioga.
Reigning state champion Marki Kinkade won her fourth regional title with a 157 following rounds of 80 and 77, Emily Furry was third with a 182 after posting a 94 and 88 and Cassie Furry placed fourth with a 186, shooting a 92 and 94. Kenzie Tidwell chipped in a 215 with rounds of 112 and 103 while Shelby Smith fired a 248 with a 127 and 121.
The Tigers finished second to Iredell, posting a 734 team score compared to the Dragons’ 705.
Luke Kinkade captured the regional championship, his third, by carding rounds of 83 and 72 for a 155 total — defeating Iredell’s Adrian Benitez (78-78=156) by one stroke. Blake Hood added a 190 for the Tigers with rounds of 100 and 90, trailed by Trenten Varner (103-92=195), Josh Schwab (96-100=196) and Mark Lopez (102-99=201).
The Class A boys golf state tournament will be held at Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin May 14-15, with the Class A girls golf state tournament to follow May 21-22 at the same location.
