MARBLE FALLS — Brownwood Lion junior Jaryn Pruitt, the 2017 Class 4A Boys Golf State Champion, added a bronze medal to go along with his gold, as he finished third overall Tuesday in his second trip to the 36-hole, two-day event.

“I feel thankful,” Pruitt said Tuesday afternoon. “I'm just thankful to make another appearance here back in Marble Falls, and to come back home with some hardware is pretty great.”

Following a first-round 71 Monday, Pruitt followed with a 76 Tuesday to post a 147 composite score at Apple Rock Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay.

“Yesterday I didn't have to worry about the closing stretch but today I did,” Pruitt said. “I managed to close out the day, not in a harmful way, but midway through my second nine things could have gone a little better. But it is what it is.”

Madisonville's Sam Bennett, the 2016 state champion, reclaimed his throne with a 142 tally after rounds of 70 and 72. Monahans' Joey Kirk, who defeated Pruitt by two strokes at the Region I-4A tournament, finished second at state with 146 total following consecutive rounds of 73.

Though Pruitt is pleased to bring home another state medal, capturing a second gold as he looks ahead to his senior season is his primary goal.

“Every time I play in a tournament, if somebody beats me it always gives me motivation to go back and beat them and better myself, ” Pruitt said.

Monahans won the 4A boys state team title with a 615 composite score, trailed by runner-up Argyle (626) and third-place Bullard (639).
