The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics named 411 baseball student-athletes as 2018 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes and former Early Longhorn and current Texas Wesleyan Ram pitcher Tres Underwood was among those honored.

In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Underwood — a 5-8, 150-pound junior left-handed pitcher — saw action in six games, supporting the Rams in relief from the bullpen. The business finance major went 1-0 in four innings of work.

The Rams finished third in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings, going 36-16 and 19-8 in conference play. The team was ranked in the top 25 all season, reaching as high as 18th (following a 12-4 start to the season) and finishing at No. 23. From March 13 to April 13, they matched the second longest winning streak in school history by taking 17 consecutive victories.
