Texas Teen Age Baseball state tournaments begin Monday, and four Brown County squads will be represented at two events.
In 6U T-ball boys state tournament action, the Early Scrappers and Early Legends are two of the 18 teams competing in Riesel. The Scrappers were the first place team out of the Early Youth Baseball Association, while the Legends were the runners-up.
The rest of the tournament field includes Groesbeck Duncan, Riesel Benton – Hulk Smash, Axtell Coleman, Axtell Pierce, Maypearl Chadwick, Chander Lumberjacks, Mineola Bombers, Mart Orlando, Valley Mills Bartels, Cameron Astros, Salado Desjardin, Temple Grasshoppers, Belton Longhorns, Belton Rebels, Rusk Astros and Mildred Eagles.
The 10-team 8U Machine Pitch state tournament in Copperas Cove will include the Brownwood Red Raiders as well as the Early Twins. Early captured the District 6 tournament championship in Comanche, while Brownwood won the District 7 tournament title at the Massey Sports Complex.
Also competing will be the Copperas Cove Astros, Copperas Cove Royals, Grand Saline Cubs, Chandler Horned Frogs, Groesbeck Ellison, Buffalo Kennedy, Gatesville Rangers and Troy Outlaws.
State tournaments will also be held in 8U Coach Pitch (Belton, 11 teams), 9U (Colorado City, nine teams), 10U Tight Base (Jacksonville, 14 teams), 10U Open Base (Temple, 13 teams), 12U Tight Base (Colorado City, nine teams), 12U Open Base (Chandler, 12 teams), 14U (Axtell, 11 teams) and 15U (De Leon, six teams) – though no Brown County teams will be competing.
Though there are no TTAB state tournaments within Brown County this summer, the TTAS High School Eligible Girls State Tournament is currently slated for July 20-22 at the Massey Sports Complex.
