Angerstein, Reagan and Murray finish in Top 12
SAN ANGELO — Brownwood's Jaryn Pruitt, the UIL Class 4A boys golf state champion in 2017 and state bronze medalist this past spring, on Friday captured the West Texas Junior Champions Tour Championship at Quicksand Golf Course.
Pruitt — the 2017 WTJCT Player of the Year — concluded the two-day, 36-hole event with a 7-under par score of 137, defeating Merkel's Colton Hilburn by five strokes. Pruitt opened the tournament Thursday with a round of 71, three strokes clear of Hilburn, then followed with a blistering 6-under par round of 66 Friday.
With the victory, Pruitt's fifth first-place finish on tour this season, he is the top ranked boys 15-18 golfer on the WTJCT, garnering 148 points over seven events.
Last summer, Pruitt was the runner-up at the WTJCT Championship, held at the Brownwood Country Club, with a 36-hole total of 4-under par 140.
Also at Quicksand Golf Course, Early's Jake Angerstein finished in sixth place overall with a 14-over par tally of 158. Angerstein carded an opening 81 but bounced back with a closing 78. Besides Pruitt and Hilburn, Angerstein placed behind Snyder's Jake Leatherwood and Big Spring's Nolan Otto, who both carded 8-over par 152s.
Fellow Brownwood golfers Caden Reagan and Jon Murray also competed in the event. Reagan was 10th overall with a 24-over par total of 168, following rounds of 86 and 82. Murray was tied for 11th place with Aaron Rearden of Mason, as both golfers finished with 26-over scores of 170. Murray shot an 87 Thursday and an 83 Friday.
