SAN ANGELO — The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions continued their hot start to the season, improving to 5-1 with a 16-3 triumph over Midland Greenwood Thursday at the Lake View High School tennis courts.

The Lions swept all nine of their matches to lead the charge.

Earning singles victories were No. 1 Gabe Hinojosa (8-0 over Tucker), No. 2 Mo Goff (6-2, 6-0 over Kyle), No. 3 James Bautista (6-2, 6-0 over Cooper), No. 4 Cameron Smith (6-4, 6-4 over Steven), No. 5 Tanner Scull (7-7 [7-5] over Jolton) and No. 6 Oscar Ledezma (6-3, 6-0 over Aiden).

Doubles wins for the Lions belonged to the No. 1 duo of Hinojosa and Smith (6-0, 6-0 over Kyle and Cooper), No. 2 Goff and Scull (6-1, 7-5 over Jolton and Steven) and No. 3 Clark Delatorre and Matthew Bundick (6-1, 6-2 over Aiden and Dawson).

The Lady Lions doubles teams won all three of their matches as well. Notching victories were No. 1 Piper Barberie and Kaytlin Welch (4-6, 6-3, 10-3 over Ellee and Giselle), No. 2 Mckinzie Adkins and Lillian Jonescue (6-0, 6-3 over Kadie and Alana) and No. 3 Hannah Netherland and Kaylee Renfroe (4-6, 6-3, 10-4 over Daylee and Kelsey).

Collecting singles wins on the girls side were No. 1 Barberie (6-0, 6-0 over Giselle), No. 3 Adkins (6-0, 6-1 over Lexi) and No. 6 Aaliyah Uvalle (6-0, 6-1 over Alana).

The mixed doubles team of Bautista and Victoria Ramos also earned a win (6-1, 6-1 over Lexi and Tucker).

Brownwood will be back in action Saturday at Copperas Cove.
