SAN ANGELO — Coming off consecutive five-set losses, the Brownwood Lady Lions stumbled out of the gate and couldn’t recover Friday as Class 6A San Angelo Central cruised to a straight-set victory.

Brownwood dropped the opening set by a 25-7 count, then fell 25-16 and 25-15. With the loss, the Lady Lions slipped to 7-11 overall on the season.

Offensively, the Lady Lions collected just 18 kills as a team — eight from Torrey Miller, five from Olivia Fowler, three from Aleyia Cotton and one apiece from Gracie Boswell and Lindsey Larose.

Hadley Monroe dished out nine assists, Miller contributed seven and Lakyn Ratliff and Davalynn Monroe were each credited with one.

Behind the service line, Annie Gillispie chalked up a pair of aces while Hadley Monroe and Caitlyn Moody added one each.

On the defensive end, Moody and Davalynn Monroe led the way with eight digs apiece trailed by Miller and Gillispie with six each, Cotton, Ratliff, Fowler and Hadley Monroe with two apiece and Larose with one.

At the net, Larose finished with three blocks and Fowler chipped in one.

The Lady Lions will attempt to rebound at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they host Abilene Cooper, which has knocked off Brownwood twice already this season.
