ALPINE — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets are in the midst of their first win streak of the season as they swept the Sul Ross Lady Lobos, 25-20, 25-15, 25-23, in Tuesday night's American Southwest Conference volleyball opener.
Leading the way on offense for the Lady Jackets (2-4, 1-0) were Kylie Metcalf and Zhartaezia Bradley with six kills apiece trailed by Mya Ross and Kailey Doering with five each, McKenna Walker with four, Madeleine Kelly with two and Kylee Shirley and Madeline Lopez with one each.
Walker chalked up 18 assists followed by Christian Wilson with four, Lopez with a pair and Metcalf, Ross, Doering and Shirley with one each.
Wilson and Bradley also contributed two aces while Ross and Shirley each served one.
On defense, Walker's 10 digs were a team-best trailed by nine from Wilson, six each from Ross and Shirley, five from Lopez, two apiece from Bradley and Doering and one each by Metcalf and Kelly.
At the net, Bradley recorded three blocks trailed by Walker with two and Ross, Doering and Metcalf with one apiece.
Sul Ross (1-4, 0-1) received 14 kills and one block from Annika Canaba, 15 assists from Kylee Davis and nine digs from Karigan Edwards.
The Lady Jackets open their home schedule at 7 p.m. Friday as they host ASC foe Hardin-Simmons (7-2, 0-1), which fell to Concordia (5-4, 1-0) Tuesday.
