The Howard Payne Lady Jackets dropped their home opener to American Southwest Conference foe Hardin-Simmons, as the visiting Cowgirls notched a three-set victory Friday night at the Brownwood Coliseum.
On the heels of a three-set victory at Sul Ross, the Lady Jackets fell 25-19, 25-7, 25-14 to Hardin-Simmons.
Offensively, Howard Payne (2-5, 1-1) was led Zhartaezia Bradley’s eight kills followed by four from Madeleine Kelly, McKenna Walker and Mya Ross with two each and Kailey Doering with one.
Walker chalked up 14 assists while Bradley, Kylie Metcalf and Madeline Lopez were credited with one.
Walker also served a pair of aces and Christian Wilson and Kylee Shirley added one apiece.
Defensively, Ross notched nine digs trailed by seven from Wilson, four from Walker and one each from Shirley, Bradley, Metcalf, Lopez, Kelly, Doering, Alexi Bushong and Ashley Hessler.
At the net, Bradley finished with two blocks while Ross and Walker recorded one apiece.
Hardin-Simmons (8-2, 1-1) received seven kills and nine aces from Allison Kuster, 10 assists from Rebekah Hayes, nine digs from Ashley Pierce and three blocks by Peyton Mandrell.
The Lady Jackets are back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday at ASC rival McMurry.
