Howard Payne was unable to hand the American Southwest Conference rival McMurry Lady War Hawks their first loss of the season as the Lady Jackets dropped a straight-set decision Tuesday night at the Brownwood Coliseum.
The Lady Jackets were upended 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 to slip to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in ASC action. McMurry moved to 11-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Kailey Doering finished with 11 kills to spark the HPU offense trailed by nine from Zhartaezia Bradley, six from Mya Ross and one each from McKenna Walker, Kylie Metcalf, Madeleine Kelly, Ashley Hessler and Madeline Lopez.
Walked dished out 24 assists followed by Lopez with three and Ross, Kelly, Christian Wilson and Amaya Marshall with one each.
Kylee Shirley and Jada Terry served the Lady Jacket aces.
The defensive side featured 11 digs from Ross, 10 from Shirley, six from Walker, two from Wilson and one each from Terry, Lopez, Kelley, Marshall and Doering.
Bradley finished with three blocks while Ross and Metcalf were each in on one.
McMurry received nine kills from Jasmine Jones, 19 assists from Emarie James, three aces and 12 digs from Odalis Rodriguez and two blocks apiece from Kianni Mitchell, Justin McGowan and Elicia Jackson.
The Lady Jackets will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the ASC Crossover in Belton. Howard Payne will face Louisiana College at 1 p.m. Friday, UT-Dallas at 10 a.m. Saturday and Belhaven at 4 p.m. Saturday.
