On their longest road trip of the American Southwest Conference schedule, the Howard Payne Lady Jackets soccer team picked up its first two victories of the season.

The Lady Jackets downed Belhaven, 4-2, Thursday in Jackson, Mississippi followed by a 3-0 shutout win over Louisiana College Saturday in Pineville, Louisiana.

Against Belhaven, Megan Jakubisin put Howard Payne on the board just 16:20 into the contest with an assist from Dayane Gutierrez.

Belhaven drew even at 21:01 on Jennifer Hosey’s second goal.

The Lady Jackets surged ahead for good on the first of Jada Austin’s back-to-back goals, the first coming with 11:13 left in the first half with an assist from Kaitlyn Harrison. Chrissa Manning assisted Austin’s second goal with 6:32 left before intermission.

Howard Payne extended its lead to 4-1 with 10:11 left as Manning scored with an assist from Mariah Gonzales.

Hosey added Belhaven’s final goal on a penalty kick with 4:18 to go.

The Lady Jackets finished with 10 shots, including eight on goal, while Belhaven took 15 shots with nine on frame.

Delaney Castor collected seven saves in goal for HPU.

In the victory over Louisiana College, Harrison scored at 13:38 on an assist from Guiterrez for the only goal the Lady Jackets needed.

The second half featured an unassisted goal by Lesly Garcia just 8:38 into the second half, and a Brittany Cortez goal off an offensive rebound with 3:03 remaining.

The Lady Jackets attempted 19 shots with nine on target compared to Louisiana College’s 12 with five on frame.

Castor added five more saves in goal for Howard Payne.

The Lady Jackets (2-4-1, 2-0-1) are off until 2 p.m. Saturday when they host UT-Dallas in ASC action.
