SHERMAN — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets slipped to 2-11 on the season Tuesday night, suffering a pair of non-conference losses to Ouachita Baptist and host Austin College in a tri-match.

The Lady Jackets fell in four sets, 25-14, 17-25, 25,-21, 25-19, to Austin College (9-7).

Mya Ross led HPU with nine kills followed by seven from Ashley Hessler, six from Amaya Marshall, five from Kylie Metcalf, four from Alexi Bushong and two each from McKenna Walker and Madeline Lopez.

Walker also distributed 21 assists followed by Lopez with nine and one each from Christian Wilson, Kylee Shirley and Ross.

Walker, Wilson, Shirley and Lopez also served aces.

Defensively, Ross and Wilson finished with 16 digs apiece trailed by Shirley with nine, Walker with six, Lopez with three and Metcalf with one.

Metcalf tallied 7.5 blocks, Hessler collected 2.5, Marshall notched 1.5, Bushong was in on one and Ross was credited with a half.

HPU began the day with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-14 loss to Ouachita Baptist (13-6.)

Zhartaezia Bradley recorded a team-best eight kills trailed by five from Marshall, four each from Metcalf, Ross and Kailey Doering and two from Walker.

Walker also chipped in 22 assists with two coming from Shirley and one from Metcalf.

Doering and Shirley also tallied a pair of aces.

Defensively, Shirley’s 13 digs were a high-water mark followed by 11 from Ross, eight from Walker, seven each from Doering and Marshall, three from both Wilson and Jada Terry and two from Metcalf.

Bradley notched two blocks while Ross and Walker added one each.

The Lady Jackets are back in action at 6 p.m. Friday at American Southwest Conference foe Mary Hardin-Baylor (11-1, 6-0). Howard Payne is 1-5 in league action thus far in 2018.
