The Brownwood Freshman Maroon Lions chalked up a 36-14 victory over the San Saba JV on Thursday.

The Lions jumped out in front, 8-0, in the first period on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Major Bowden to Jakob Hataway. Bowden connected with Christian Chambers for the two-point conversion.

Brownwood stretched the lead to 14-0 in the second period on a 66-yard scoring sprint by Cade Jetton.

San Saba scored its only points of the first half on a 36-yard touchdown pass, but the Lions answered with a 14-yard scoring run by Bowden for a 22-8 halftime cushion.

A 38-yard touchdown run by Jetton in the third period extended the lead to 28-8 before San Saba scored on a 3-yard run.

Leading 28-14, the Lions added one final insurance touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 54-yard Bowden scamper. Bowden hooked up with Hataway for the two-point conversion and final 22-point margin of victory.

Defensive standouts included Hataway ( 3 tackles, INT), Alexis Reyna (4 tackles, blocked punt), Uriah King, and Ethan Pesina.

In other sub-varsity action Thursday, the Freshman White Lions were handed a 28-0 defeat by the Goldthwaite JV.
