STEPHENVILLE — The Brownwood Lady Lions came up seven points shy of earning a fifth consecutive district cross country championship, but will still move on to the Region I-4A meet following their runner-up performance at the District 7-4A race here Tuesday.
Host Stephenville tallied 33 points to earn the district title, trailed by Brownwood with 40 points. Godley, with 58 points, is the third team out of 7-4A to advance to regionals.
Darby Crysler led the charge for the Lady Lions with a third-place time of 12:50.21 while Izzy Lawrence came in fourth clocked at 12:59.22. Watts Jones earned eighth place in a time of 13:11.02 while Audrey Boren was 10th with a 13:18.71 effort. Naysa Leach was clocked at 13:54.33 to come in 15th, Mia Sharp ran a 14:09.44 for 18th place and Alyssa Couey was 21st with a time of 14:33.19.
On the boys side, Brownwood’s Roman McKibben punched his ticket to Lubbock with an eighth-place individual effort of 18:52.36.
As a team, Brownwood came in fourth place with 101 points, trailing champion Stephenville (27), Glen Rose (35) and Mineral Wells (73) — the regional qualifying teams.
Also running for the Lions were Jeremy Peel (22nd, 21:15.72), Christian Kinzler (24th, 21:37.98), Conner Fitzgerald (27th, 22:17.16), and Cameron Phipps (30th, 23:40.27).
The Region I-4A meet will take place at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock on Monday, Oct. 22.
