The Brownwood Crushers first-inning struggles cost them dearly as they suffered a 13-3 opening-round defeat at the hands of the Comanche Lady Aggies Tuesday night in TTAS District 2 Freshman Girls tournament action at Camp Bowie.

The Crushers surrendered 12 runs mostly due to walks during the bottom of the first inning and were never able to recover.

Brownwood had grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Rikki Loman reached on a one-out single, then stole second and third base before coming home on a wild pitch.

The Crushers did not score again until the top of the fourth inning when Comanche had control problems in the circle.

Charity Sagabiel, Sidney Maxwell, Brianna Laing, Jordan Pittman and Maddie Browning drew walks in the fourth inning, with Pittman and Browning collecting RBIs.

But Comanche scored once in the bottom of the fourth to enforce the 10-run rule.

The Crushers will face the Ballinger Red Hot Maniacs in an elimination game today, while the Brownwood Wild Thangz battle the Comanche Longhorns. Both games start at 6 p.m.
