CLYDE ó The Brownwood Lady Lionsí start to the 2007-08 basketball season didnít go as planned Tuesday night as they suffered a 52-39 loss to the Clyde Lady Bulldogs.
With three of their top scorers from last year lost to graduation, second-year head coach Nikki Heath stated having players step up offensively was one of the biggest keys to the season.
Brownwood had just one player finish in double figures in the opener, however, as second-team all-district selection LaCresha Williams poured in almost half of the Lady Lionsí points, finishing with 19.
Alex Williams chipped in nine points, but no other Lady Lion scored more than three. Moochie Galloway tallied those three points, while two points each came from Hailey Williams, Sabrina Castillo, Vanessa Ramirez and Shalisa Hall.
Brownwood trailed 12-7 after one quarter, 29-21 at halftime and 37-33 after three quarters. In the fourth period, however, the Lady Lions were limited to six points while Clyde chalked up 15.
Emily Yates scored 21 points to lead Clyde (1-0), while Brooke Harris added 16 points.
Brownwood (0-1) will be back in action at 7:30 p.m. Friday when they visit Class 3A Robinson, located just outside of Waco.
