Bulletin Staff Report
The start of District 2-3A volleyball action brought the return of the No. 16 Brownwood Lady Lions’ dominant play as they pummeled the Snyder Lady Tigers, 25-8, 25-11, 25-19, Friday night at Warren Gym to open defense of their district crown.
The Lady Lions tallied eight of the first nine points in the opening set, and cruised from there as the Lady Tigers never posed a threat to Brownwood’s district win streak — which stands at 13 in a row dating to the 2007 season.
Brownwood finished with 26 kills as a team, led by 15 from Julie Kennedy. Alicia Castillo tallied five kills, while two each came from Sheldyn Miller, Chloe Geye and Shelbie Harry.
Miller led the Lady Lions in digs with eight, trailed by seven from Kennedy, three each from Geye, Sarah Underwood and Melissa Rmeili and one apiece from Castillo and Kelsey Gober.
Castillo finished with three blocks for the Lady Lions, while Miller had the fourth of the night.
Rmeili recorded 20 of Brownwood’s 24 assists, with two going to Miller and one each belonging to Castillo and Gober.
The Lady Lions served 11 aces as a team, led by four from Gober, three from Geye and two apiece from Kennedy and Rmeili.
Brownwood will return to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when it visits Abilene Wylie (25-7, 1-0), which swept Sweetwater, 25-21, 25-15, 25-13, Friday night in the 2-3A opener for both teams. Sweetwater finished second to the Lady Lions in district last year, while Wylie was the third-place team.
