The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets remained winless in American Southwest Conference soccer action with road losses at Texas Lutheran and Schreiner over the weekend.
The Yellow Jackets (1-5, 0-3) were dealt a 1-0 overtime loss by Texas Lutheran Friday, and were blanked 3-0 by Schreiner Saturday.
In the loss to Texas Lutheran (2-3-2, 2-1-1), Silas Blackwell scored the only goal on a penalty kick 3:10 into overtime.
Malcolm Framjee recorded four saves as the Yellow Jackets were outshot by TLU, 22-7. Recording shots on goal for Howard Payne were Dennis Benitez, Brice Reusink, Malcolm Wentworth and Isaac Hawkins.
The loss to Schreiner (2-3-1, 1-2-1) featured goals by Mountaineers Ryan Ross, Krisjon Phillips and Tino Albarran — all of which occurred in the second half.
The Yellow Jackets’ lone shot on goal was attempted by Chris Martinez.
Framjee finished with seven saves in 25 overall shot attempts.
The Lady Jackets (0-4, 0-3) produced HPU’s only goal of the weekend in the second half of a 4-1 loss to Schreiner (2-3-1, 1-3-1). Nelly Ruiz scored unassisted at the 78:18 juncture.
Howard Payne attempted six shots on goal with three coming from Ruiz. Susana Chavarria, Felicia Pena and Tiara Rogers also had attempts.
Nicole Pena finished with nine saves as Schreiner attempted 28 shots.
The Lady Jackets opened the weekend with a 10-0 loss to Texas Lutheran (6-2, 4-1).
Diana Bolanos attempted HPU’s lone shot on goal, while Nicole Pena tallied 10 saves on 28 TLU shots.
Kelli Layden scored three goals for Texas Lutheran, while Dani Matthews added a pair.
Both the Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets will be back in action this weekend as they host ASC foes East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau on Friday and Saturday. Doubleheader action at Citizens National Bank Field begins at 2 p.m. each day with the women’s contests.
