MINERAL WELLS — The Brownwood Lions opened play in the Mineral Wells baseball tournament Thursday with an 18-8 victory over Wichita Falls, then suffered a 6-2 loss to Azle.
The Lions (2-6) belted four home runs in their victory, with two coming from Casey Pachall. Shelby Miller and Chase Holmes also had drives clear the fence.
Garrett Goodwin worked the first 2.2 innings on the mound before giving way to Taylor Chesser, who pitched the final 2.1 innings.
In the loss to Azle, Miller drove home both Lion runs on a two-run home run.
Mike Thompson tossed the first five innings before Cody Clements came on to work the sixth.
The Lions will be back in action today with a 1:30 p.m. game against Dallas Jefferson, followed by a 4 p.m. contest against Mineral Wells.
