ARLINGTON — The No. 3 Brownwood Lady Lions picked up two victories in five matches at the 40th annual Arlington Invitational volleyball tournament, hosted by Arlington Sam Houston Friday and Saturday.

Brownwood claimed two victories on Friday, defeating Class 4A Fort Worth Dunbar 25-15, 25-8 and Class 5A Arlington Sam Houston, 22-25, 25-18, 27-25. The Lady Lions dropped matches against Mansfield Summit (25-15, 26-24), Abilene High (25-22, 25-23) and North Crowley (19-25, 25-13, 25-18) — all Class 5A programs.

In the Lady Lions’ opening win over Dunbar, seniors Julie Kennedy and Chloe Geye finished with seven kills and five digs apiece. Sheldyn Miller — Brownwood’s third senior — added four kills, five digs and five blocks, while Shelbie Harry chipped in a kill, one dig and two blocks. Melissa Rmeili, Hadley Lindley and Kelsey Gober chalked up four digs each, while Gober also had one kill. Alicia Castillo collected four kills.

Brownwood ended Friday with a three-set victory over Arlington Sam Houston, led by Kennedy’s 21 kills and 11 digs. Miller added four kills, 11 digs and two blocks, while Geye finished with four kills and seven digs. Rmeili added a pair of blocks, two digs and a kill, while Harry had eight digs and one kill. Castillo notched three kills and a dig, Lindley recorded 11 digs and Gober had a kill.

The Lady Lions’ lone loss Friday came against Mansfield Summit, with Kennedy tallying eight kills and 13 digs. Geye added two kills and five digs, while Miller had two kills and a pair of blocks. Rmeili notched two blocks and two digs, and Castillo recorded two kills and a dig. Harry finished with two blocks and Lindley tallied two digs.

In Brownwood’s loss to Abilene High, Kennedy again led the attack with 10 kills and eight digs, while Miller added five kills, eight digs and a block. Geye added three kills and three digs, Castillo had two kills and a dig and Harry and Rmeili each had three digs and a block. Lindley chalked up four digs.

Brownwood closed the tournament against North Crowley, with Kennedy notching 15 kills, five digs and four blocks. Geye chipped in four kills, nine digs and two blocks, while Miller had four kills, 11 digs and two blocks. Castillo contributed four kills and three digs, Harry notched three kills and four digs and Rmeili finished with four digs and two blocks. Lindley contributed 10 digs.

The Lady Lions (9-10) will take Tuesday off, then host No. 4 Fredericksburg at 6 p.m. Friday in a rematch of last season’s Region I-3A championship match.
