GRANBURY — The Brownwood Lady Lions squandered a six-run lead and let the No. 2 seed from District 2-3A slip through their hands as the Graham Lady Blues rallied for an 11-8 victory in Friday’s seeding playoff game at Granbury High School.

Due to the loss — the second in a row for the Lady Lions (22-8) heading into the postseason — they will face District 1-3A runner-up Lubbock Cooper in the bi-district round of the playoffs. A best-of-three series is tentatively scheduled to take place in Snyder with Game 1 slated for 7 p.m. Friday. Games 2 and 3, if needed, will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Lady Lions appeared to be in control of Friday’s rubber match with Graham (16-9) after scoring six runs in the first two innings. But the Lady Blues answered with 11 straight runs, and Brownwood’s comeback bid came up short in the top of the seventh.

Brownwood finished with 11 hits, led by Kerri Jones, who went 2-for-3 with her ninth home run, four RBIs and three runs. Nathalie de la Torre finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Alex Williams also homered and knocked in two runs.

In the circle, however, Lady Lion pitchers Kate Atchley and Sayla Parsons both struggled, surrendering a combined 11 hits and five walks between them.

The Lady Lions grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Atchley walked with one out, then Jones launched a two-run homer to center field off Graham starter Caitlin Kruger.

Brownwood increased its lead to 6-0 in the second inning as Jones doubled in Jocelyn Woolf and Amanda Gober, who both singled to start the inning, then Williams crushed a two-run blast over the left field fence that scored herself and Jones.

Graham responded with one run in the second and two in the third, then the Lady Blues drew even with three runs in the fourth. A bases-loaded walk by Courtney Ford, an RBI fielder’s choice by Courtney Chappell and an RBI single by Kruger accounted for Graham’s three runs in the fourth.

The Lady Blues took an 11-6 lead in the bottom of the fifth as they scored five runs on four hits. Kea Ruddy’s one-out RBI single broke the tie, then Ford followed with a two-RBI double to deep center field. With two outs, Kruger roped a two-RBI double to left field that pushed the lead to five runs.

Brownwood’s seventh-inning rally began with Jones and Williams drawing walks off reliever Taylor Smiley, while Mallorie Maxwell chipped in a single to load the bases. A two-RBI single by de la Torre cut Graham’s lead to 11-8. Following an infield single by Sydnie Darden that again loaded the bases, Lindsey Sconce came on in relief and retired the next three Lady Lions to record the save.
