WINTERS — The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions cross country teams both placed third at the Winters meet on Saturday.

The Lady Lions tallied 76 points, which trailed Ballinger and Jim Ned, both of which finished with 44 points.

The Lions collected 83 points, which left them behind first-place Winters (30 points) and second-place Jim Ned (32 points).

Sydnie Darden led the Lady Lions with a fifth-place effort of 14:30.28, while Amanda Gober finished in 11th place with a time of 14:56. Caitlyn Haynes came in 19th place (15:11.04), trailed by Abby Varges (21st, 15:12.37), Larisa Salazar (23rd, 15:14.34), Aranda Salazar (24th, 15:15.14), Sara Byrd (39th, 16:13.44), Emily Dick (41st, 16:37.14) and Katy Jacobs (53rd, 17:43.55).

The top finisher for the Lions was Cameron McLaughlin with a fourth-place time of 19:17.04. Jacob Moore also finished in the top 10 with a time of 20:07.42. Kindry Kirbo came in 13th place (20:30.31), followed by Josh Reece (26th, 21:13.87), Matt Gonzales (37th, 23:42.36), Nathan Ross (38th, 23:48.37), Colt Waddle (39th, 23:54.53), Scott Palmer (45th, 26:12.05) and Matt Ruiz (47th, 26:52.1).

The rest of the boys draw featured Paint Rock (94) in fourth place, followed by Jim Ned II (116) and Ballinger (133).

On the girls side, Winters came in fourth place (105 points), followed by Roby I (106), Jim Ned II (177), Paint Rock (196), Eden (244) and Roby II (273).

The Brownwood seventh grade girls added a second-place, 52-point finish, which trailed only Ballinger (18 points).

Running for the seventh grade girls were Tierra Burleson (8th, 17:33.35), Chandler Staten (9th, 17:51.65), Halie Thatcher (12th, 19:38.92), Bethany Pittman (14th, 20:15.1), Merceda Zapata (15th, 20:32.59), Sara Hernandez (16th, 20:54.26) and Sharlyn Espinoza (21:12.32).

Victoria Hood finished fourth in the eighth grade girls division with a time of 15:31.08.

The next action for the Lady Lions and Lions will be Saturday as they take part in the Brownwood Reunion Fun Run. Brownwood’s next meet is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26 at Llano.
