The Brownwood seventh grade Cubs “A” and “B” football teams cruised to victories over San Angelo Lincoln on Monday.
The “A” team posted a 24-0 win as four different Cubs scored. Newt Harrell ran for a 6-yard touchdown, Matt McCrane threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Howey, Jeffrey Newton scored on a 1-yard scamper and Zane Helms recorded a safety.
Newton and Harrell also converted two-point conversions.
Sparking the defensive effort were Bryant McDaniel, who picked off a pass, and Kevin Hobbs, who blocked a punt. Other standouts included Slate Miller, Tyler Doil and Caleb Wilbourn.
Leading the way offensively for the Cubs were Bryce Vickers and Gannon Sparks.
Zane McCoy and Dylan Martin scored two touchdowns apiece as the “B” team rolled to a 40-6 win over Lincoln.
Martin found the end zone following runs of 4 and 10 yards, while McCoy scored after galloping for 25 and 6 yards.
Michael Westerman also returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown, while Brandon Brownlee and Irish Cooper combined for three two-point conversions.
Other top performers included Blake Dudley and William Murray, who had one sack each, along with Christian Perez, Scott Kinzler and Emilio Salazar.
