ROUND ROCK(AP) — Scott Gorgen threw a complete game, and Taylor Holiday had two hits and drove in a run as UC Irvine beat Texas 3-1 in the Round Rock regional on Saturday night.

Bradley Suttle homered for Texas (45-15), the top-seeded team in the regional. The Longhorns must now beat Wake Forest on Sunday or be eliminated from the tournament.

Gorgen (11-2) struck out two and allowed five hits for UC Irvine (42-15-1), which quickly put Texas behind when Ben Orloff’s single to left in the first scored Holiday.

Texas starter Adrian Alaniz (12-3) pitched 6 2-3 innings, allowing six hits with all three runs earned. Cody Cipriano’s single in the third brought home Holiday, who later hit a run-scoring single in the seventh to score Aaron Lowenstein.

Baylor 9, Prairie View A&M 2

HOUSTON (AP) — Shaver Hansen went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs as Baylor eliminated Prairie View A&M from the NCAA tournament with a 9-2 win in the Houston Regional on Saturday.

Matt Czimskey homered and drove in three, and Tim Matthews (2-2) pitched seven strong innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out two.

Hansen drove in one run during a three-run third for Baylor (35-26), then hit a two-RBI double in the fifth, his 14th double of the season.

The Panthers (34-25) scored their first run of the tournament — and ended a streak of 13 scoreless innings — when Greg Ford’s single scored Michael Richard in the fifth.

Prairie View’s Wrandal Taylor (9-6) pitched into the fifth, allowing seven runs on eight hits and striking out five.

Sam Houston St. 5, Troy 4

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Luke Prihoda earned his national best 18th save Saturday as Sam Houston State rallied for a 5-4 win to eliminate Troy from the NCAA Oxford regional.

Prihoda worked 2 2-3 innings to help the fourth-seeded Bearkats (38-24) pick up their first regional win since 1996.

Stephen Price (1-0) earned the win with 2 2-3 innings of hitless relief after replacing starter Jesse Marshall.

Joe Hallahan (5-7) gave up eight hits in six innings and took the loss for Troy (35-26), which was led by Clint Robinson and Edgar Ramirez with two hits apiece.

The Trojans, who committed five errors in an opening-round loss to Southern Miss, could not overcome three errors against the Bearkats that led to three unearned runs.

Ramirez lifted a first-inning solo home run to help Troy to an early 3-0 lead. The Trojans never seriously threatened again until the final inning, when they scored a run and had the winning run on base. But Prihoda forced a grounder to end the game.

Sam Houston State got run-scoring hits from Bobby Verbick, Austin Boggs and a sacrifice fly from Karl Krailo to tie the game 3-3 in the third inning. The Bearkats used a pair of infield errors to take a 5-3 lead in the fourth.

Keith Stein, Todd Sebek and Verbick led the Bearkats with two hits apiece.
