BALLINGER — The Brownwood Lady Lions opened play at the Ballinger tournament Thursday afternoon with their fourth win in five games, a 63-41 decision over Sonora.

Every Lady Lion scored, led by 16 points from Trinity Ansons and 11 from Sydnie Darden in her varsity debut. Kelsey Gober added nine points, followed by six from Mallorie Maxwell, Patricia Wilson with five, four each by Sara Byrd and Amanda Gober, and two points apiece from Shelby Byrd, Tiara Brown, Hannah Mask and Neelie Carriger.

Ansons and Sara Byrd finished with a team-high five rebounds each, while Byrd dished out five assists and Darden tallied three. Mask led the Lady Lions with three steals.

Brownwood led 12-2 after one quarter, 37-11 at halftime and 54-22 heading into the fourth period.

The Lady Lions (4-3) will face either Ballinger or Hamlin at 6 p.m. today.

Sonora 49, Lions 43

BALLINGER — The Brownwood Lions slipped to 0-3 on the season with Thursday’s 49-43 loss to Sonora in the first round of the Ballinger tournament.

Marquos Barnes led the Lions with 17 points, followed by seven from Greg Jefferson, four points each from Derek Longoria and Michael Ballejo and two points from Graylon Brown.

The Lions are slated to face either Grape Creek or Hamlin at 1:30 p.m. today.
