SWEETWATER - The Brownwood Lady Lions dropped their first set in district play, but stormed back to grab sole possession of first place in the 2-3A volleyball standings with a 21-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-14 win over the Sweetwater Lady Mustangs here Tuesday night.
Brownwood improved to 24-8 overall with the victory and 6-0 in district action, while Sweetwater slipped to 29-7 overall and 5-1 in 2-3A play. The Lady Lions received a team-high 24 kills from Julie Kennedy, followed by 22 from Flynn Harrell, four from Moochie Galloway, three from Chloe Geye and one from Stephanie Jordy.
Harrell notched nine digs to lead the Lady Lions, followed by Kennedy with seven, Jalisa Hall and RaeLee Taylor with four each and Geye and Alex Williams with two apiece.
Galloway’s eight blocks were tops for Brownwood, while Williams and Jordy added four each, Kennedy and Harrell finished with two apiece and one each came from Geye and Shalisa Hall.
Williams tallied 51 assists, while the Lady Lions as a team served 10 aces.
The first-place Lady Lions will be back in action at 6 p.m. Friday when they host Breckenridge.
