SEGUIN ó The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets tallied their first American Southwest Conference soccer victory of the season Saturday, edging the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs by a 1-0 count.

The Yellow Jackets (2-3, 1-1 in ASC) scored their lone goal when Kelton McMillian found the net in the 73rd minute thanks to an assist from Jaime Benitez. The goal was the first of the season for McMillian.

Francisco Medina went the distance in goal for Howard Payne and recorded seven saves in 90 minutes of action.

Texas Lutheran, which slipped to 0-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, was outshot by the Jackets 17-8.

The Lady Jackets remained unbeaten in conference play as they battled Texas Lutheran to a 1-1 tie Saturday.

TaíKenda Cotton scored an unassisted goal for the Lady Jackets (2-3-1, 1-0-1) in the 39th minute, but TLUís Kristin Meloni evened the match in the 54th minute on a penalty kick.

In goal, Kaitlyn Kelm collected nine saves in 110 minutes of action for Howard Payne.

Texas Lutheran is now 2-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in ASC action.

The Lady Jackets and Yellow Jackets will play in Friday and Saturday conference doubleheaders at Citizens National Bank Field. LeTourneau visits Friday followed by East Texas Baptist Saturday. Action begins at 2 p.m. each day, with the women playing first.
