The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets did not drop a game, while the Lady Jackets split two American Southwest Conference soccer contests over the weekend at Citizens National Bank Field.

The Yellow Jackets rallied to tie UT-Tyler, 1-1, on Friday, then cruised past Concordia, 2-0, on Saturday.

The Lady Jackets, meanwhile, rebounded from a 3-0 loss to UT-Tyler on Friday with a 5-0 win over Concordia on Saturday.

Both Yellow Jacket (4-2-2, 3-2-1) goals during Saturday’s victory came in the first half.

Shane Cazad scored unassisted just 10:45 in, then Paul Deets found the net following a Dennis Benitez assist 27:02 into the game.

Francisco Medina went the distance in goal for HPU and finished with six saves.

Against UT-Tyler Friday, Cazad also found the net with 1:45 left in regulation to knot the score at 1-all.

Medina played 110 minutes against the Patriots, including 20 minutes of overtime, and recorded six saves.

The Lady Jackets tallied their second-most goals in a game this season in Saturday’s 5-0 victory over Concordia.

Howard Payne (5-5, 4-2) exploded with four goals in the second half, as Kelli Wentworth scored two of her three in the final 45 minutes. Takenda Cotton added Howard Payne’s other two goals.

The scoring began with 30:44 gone in the match as Wentworth found the net following an assist from Lauren Hankins.

Cotton tallied the first goal of the second half on an assist by Emily Nutt 66:45 into the game.

Wentworth then reeled off a pair of goals in a 33-second span, first scoring 77:30 in on a dual assist by Cotton and Lori Gomez, and again at 78:03 on a solo assist from Cotton.

Cotton then closed the scoring 80:59 in thanks to an assist from Nelly Ruiz.

Rachael Hardegree played all 90 minutes in goal.

In the loss to UT-Tyler, Ashli McCutchen and Susana Chavarria attempted the only shots on goal for Howard Payne.

Hardegree finished with seven saves.

Howard Payne will be back in action at 1 p.m. Thursday with an ASC doubleheader at University of the Ozarks.
