Mauricio Garcia’s birdie on the third playoff hole Sunday earned him the boys 15-18 age division title at the Texas Legends Junior Golf Tour’s sixth annual Bluebonnet Championship, held at the Brownwood Country Club.
Garcia, from Laredo, fired a 3-under par 69, but his 36-hole total of 5-under par 139 was equaled by Hayden Stephens of Georgetown, who posted a tournament best round of 6-under par 66 on Sunday.
Finishing one shot behind (140, 4-under par) in a three-way tie for third place were Midland’s Neil Dufford, Richardson’s Tyler Holmes and defending tournament champ and first-round leader Brenden Redfern of Austin.
Golden’s Kelsey Kirkpatrick remained perfect in the girls 15-18 ranks as she captured her fourth tournament in as many tries this year.
Kirkpatrick followed a Saturday 73 with an 80 on Sunday, but her 153 total (9-over par) was still three shots better than runner-up Kristine Guzman of San Antonio (156, 12-over par).
San Angelo’s Kendra Whittley finished third (160, 16-over par) and was the only member of the division to break 80 on Sunday with her round of 75.
Frisco’s Hunter Zetsche surpassed Nicholas Robert of McKinney in the final round to capture the boys 14-and-under title. Zetsche carded a 73 Sunday to finish at even par 144, while Robert posted a 75 and completed the tournament at 1-over par (145).
Brownwood’s Tyler Pattillo climbed from 19th to 16th place in the final boys 14-and-under standings, answering his Saturday 83 with a 78 Sunday for a 17-over par total of 161.
In girls 14-and-under action, Mackenzie Boydston of Keller overtook Kirsten Pike of Ovilla during the final 18 holes. Boydston carded an 84 to finish with a 171 overall (27-over par), while Pike shot a 90 and finished at 175.
